11 Sep Jason Morgan

Story #11
Air Date: September 11, 2013

Jason Morgan became paralyzed from the waist down while on a narcotics mission in South America as a member of the Air Force Special Operation Command.

Jason was medically discharged from the military and within a year his 10-year marriage ended in divorce. At the time, his three sons were all under the age of four.

Today, Jason is a single father with custody of his three teenage sons living in Texas with his Canine Companions service dog, Napal. Jason and Napal volunteer in hospitals and schools. Jason also started a non profit for newly wounded warriors called Operation Renewed Strength where he takes them and their families on retreats to do activities like scuba diving, adaptive horseback riding, water skiing and more. He knows first hand what it feels like to go from being in the best shape of your life to having disabilities.

“It seems like every wounded warrior I’ve talked to says they lost their purpose in life, they don’t feel anything they do is significant anymore, and I want to prove that’s wrong.”

Despite becoming an amputee from the knee down this past year, Jason completed his first marathon, right after the surgery, and placed 5th!
