5-hour ENERGY® Racing News

24 Feb Daytona 500 Race Report

No. 15 5-hour ENERGY Toyota driver Clint Bowyer finished 42nd in Sunday’s 56th running of the Daytona 500. The Michael Waltrip Racing driver started 20th and played it conservatively early on in the running of the Great American Race. By keeping himself out of trouble, Bowyer put himself in position to maneuver his way to the front at the opportune time, but he never got the chance. A mechanical issue under the hood of the No. 15 5-hour ENERGY Toyota forced Bowyer to pit lane and ended his race. The 5-hour ENERGY team returns to action Sunday at Phoenix International Raceway.

  • Started 20th and finished 42nd.
  • Raced backup car after an on-track incident in Thursday’s qualifying race.
  • Mechanical issue ended Bowyer’s race.
  • Returns to action Sunday at Phoenix International Raceway.

BOWYER: “It’s just a frustrating day first from the rain — if it was going to blow up, I wish it would have blown up four hours ago. I could have been home watching. Just disappointing — the guys work so hard for this race. Everybody is out there having fun and we broke our toy.”
