09 Mar Las Vegas Race Report
No. 15 5-hour ENERGY Toyota driver Clint Bowyer finished 23rd in Sunday’s NASCAR Sprint Cup race at Las Vegas Motor Speedway. The Michael Waltrip Racing driver started third and struggled in the early going falling back to 17th. The 5-hour ENERGY crew worked throughout the race to improve the handling. Bowyer climbed to sixth and appeared ready to claim a top-five finish with 50 laps remaining. However, on a restart with less than 35 laps remaining Bowyer made right-side contact with the wall forcing him to make an extra pit stop, ruining his chances for a good finish. Bowyer and the 5-hour ENERGY team return to action Sunday at Bristol Motor Speedway.
- Started third and finished 23rd.
- Faded early but made a charge midway through the race.
- Ran sixth with 50 laps remaining.
- Wall contact on lap 234 forced him to pit lane
BOWYER: “Well that stinks. We were looking at least a top-five finish there. On that restart there at the end, people were checking up and once things got rolling, I had some damage on the right side and I had to pit for tires. I feel bad. My guys worked so hard and we were good all weekend. We had a good qualifying run and the 5-hour ENERGY Toyota was fast in practice. It’s just a shame.
