30 Mar Martinsville Race Report
No. 15 5-hour ENERGY Toyota driver Clint Bowyer finished ninth in Sunday’s 500-lap NASCAR Sprint Cup race at Martinsville Speedway. The Michael Waltrip Racing driver appeared in perfect position to earn his first victory of the 2014 season when he took the lead with 50 laps to go in the 500-lap race. During a pit stop under caution 10 laps later he dropped from first to 10th and out of contention for the win. The disappointing finish concluded a dramatic charge by Bowyer who started 12th and spent the first half of the race battling the handling on his No. 15 Toyota. Crew chief Brian Pattie cured the handling issues by the halfway mark and Bowyer began a march toward the front. On lap 285 Bowyer grab the lead for the first time. He would remain in the top 10 for the remainder of the race and led three times for 16 laps. The No. 15 5-hour ENERGY Toyota team will return to action Sunday at Texas Motor Speedway.
- Started 12th and finished ninth.
- Lead three times for 16 laps during the race
- Leading with 40 to go when a slow pit stop dropped him to tenth.
- Posted his third top-10 finish at Martinsville in as many races
BOWYER: “We’re just disappointed. We had the lead there at the end and had trouble in the pits and came out 10th. We just didn’t have enough laps to make it up. Just really disappointed. Felt we could have had the win there.”
