03 Mar Phoenix Race Report

No. 15 5-hour ENERGY Toyota driver Clint Bowyer finished 13th in Sunday’s NASCAR Sprint Cup race at Phoenix International Raceway. The Michael Waltrip Racing driver started 14th and struggled in the early going with a loose-handling race car. The No. 15 fell to 20th and a lap down until the adjustments enabled Bowyer to earn the free pass on lap 173. As the temperatures cooled on the mile oval, Bowyer began turning top 10 lap times and moved to 15th by lap 200. Bowyer continued his climb moving as high as second during a pit stop sequence. The No. 15 was ninth with 62 laps remaining, but Bowyer couldn’t remain there through several late race cautions and finished 13th. Bowyer and the 5-hour ENERGY team return to action Sunday at Las Vegas Motor Speedway.

  • Started 14th and finished 13th.
  • Struggled with a loose-handling race car in early stages of race.
  • Earned free pass on lap 173, moved to 15th by lap 200.
  • Restarted race in ninth with 62 laps remaining.

BOWYER: “We had our 5-hour ENERGY Toyota in the top 10 there at the end. I just didn’t have enough grip there on those restarts with all the cautions late in the race. But a solid day for Brian Pattie and the 5-hour ENERGY guys with 13th.”
