18 Aug 5-hour ENERGY® Presents Donation to The Special Operations Warrior Foundation
Back in May we introduced our new limited flavor, Cherry, and it instantly became a fan favorite! From May 1 through July 31, 2014, we committed to donating five cents from the sale of every specially marked red, white and blue bottle to the Special Operations Warrior Foundation (SOWF), a top-rated nonprofit that supports the military’s special operations forces and their families through college scholarships, family services and financial stipends.
We are proud to announce that Living Essentials, the makers of 5-hour ENERGY®, presented a check for $279,061.60 to SOWF. To have a little fun, we presented the check at the Tampa Bay Rays game on August 15, where Command Sgt. Major James Faris threw out the first pitch!
In addition to a monetary donation, during the three month donation period we helped increase awareness of this amazing organization through various online and offline efforts. In May, we sponsored the inaugural night race at Kansas on May 10, the 5-hour ENERGY® 400 benefiting Special Operations Warrior Foundation. During that race, Clint Bowyer’s #15 Toyota Camry even featured a special patriotic Cherry paint scheme! Clint’s car also featured the Cherry paint during the Coca-Cola 600 at Charlotte Motor Speedway and the FedEx 400 benefiting Autism Speaks at Dover International Speedway.
In addition, professional golfer Jim Furyk sported a Cherry/SOWF hat during The Memorial Tournament.
Besides the support we received from our athletes, we took our awareness efforts one step further by holding giveaways on our Social channels that featured Cherry 5-hour ENERGY® shots as the prize, along with the hashtag #5hourSpecialOps. All of these efforts helped lead to a 99% increase of website visits, and an 11% jump in new visitors to the site from the same time period last year. Also during this time, there was an increase in private donations totaling nearly $250,000, which SOWF attributes to the advertising, special events and publicity from the campaign.

Joe Maguire, president of the Special Operations Warrior Foundation. “The funds received from the sale of the Cherry bottles of 5-hour ENERGY® and the increase in private donations will go a long way in supporting the families of America’s special operations troops and our wounded operators,” said Maguire. “It is heart-warming to receive this donation which honors our fallen warriors and reminds our families who have sacrificed so much that they are not forgotten.”
