Sister Hazel

Story #9
Air Date: August 28, 2013

Sister Hazel Williams has dedicated her life to helping the poor. She is particularly concerned about the homeless.

Over the last 65 years she has headed Sister Hazel Angels of Mercy Ministries. Her ministries have included providing hundreds of meals a week to the homeless using food from restaurants which otherwise would have been discarded. Her work with the homeless inspired local Gainesville musicians to name their rock band “Sister Hazel.”

Through her ministries she has collected clothes, medical appliances, and household items which have been distributed to the poor. Her mission efforts have included trips to Haiti.

At 88, she still has an active ministry which includes monthly trips to prisons. Through this experience she has developed a concern for children of the incarcerated. She intends on using the $50,000 she received from the 5-hour ENERGY® Helps Amazing People program to launch a ministry to serve children of prisoners.

We need more people like her in today’s society that are willing to give people that are so unfortunate. I pray to god every day that he will make things better for me and my family and I pray that he would send me a angle like sister Hazel Williams

I think her story is so inspirational, it’s amazing that a single woman has changed the lives of so many people that most people tend to ignore. I pray that God continue to give her good health and strength to continue her ministry.
