Clint Bowyer Bristol Race Summary
Clint Bowyer Race Summary: No. 15 5-hour ENERGY Toyota driver Clint Bowyer finished fourth in Sunday’s 500-lap NASCAR Sprint Cup race at Bristol Motor Speedway. The finish moved Bowyer to eighth in the point standings. Bowyer started 16th and climbed into the top five at the halfway mark. As the race wound down Bowyer conserved fuel while the few cars in front of him were doubtful they could make it to the end. A caution with about 25 laps to go stymied Bowyer’s plans, but the team used the opportunity to pit for two tires. Bowyer restarted the race in fifth with 16 laps to go, but there were not enough laps for him to catch the leaders racing on older tires. Bowyer’s teammate Martin Truex Jr. finished third and Brian Vickers finished fifth giving Michael Waltrip Racing three of the top-five finishers. The 5-hour ENERGY team returns to action Sunday at Auto Club Speedway in Fontana, Calif.
- Started 16th and finished fourth.
- Raced at the front of the field throughout the race.
- A late caution hurt his bid to win the race through conserving fuel.
- With 16 to go, Bowyer restarted the race in fifth - the only leader with two fresh tires.
- Second consecutive top 10 finish.
Bowyer Quotes: "These MWR (Michael Waltrip Racing) cars have been good ever since (Martin) Truex was running good at the end of last year. Just real proud of everybody -- 5-hour ENERGY, Toyota. Tough call at the end there to come in and pit, but still the right call. We did the right thing there and it got us a top-five. Heck of a day for MWR."
