Clint Bowyer New Hampshire Race Summary

Clint Bowyer Race Summary:No. 15 5-hour ENERGY Toyota driver Clint Bowyer finished fourth in Sunday’s 300-mile NASCAR Sprint Cup race at New Hampshire Motor Speedway. The Michael Waltrip Racing driver started 12th and moved to eighth in the first lap and into the top five by lap 15. Bowyer ran in the top five throughout the race climbing as high as second past the halfway mark. The No. 15 team took only two tires on several pit stops to gain or maintain track position. Bowyer survived close racing in the final laps to secure the fourth-place finish. It was his seventh top-five finish in 2012. Bowyer and the 5-hour ENERGY team return to action Sunday at Dover International Speedway in the third of NASCAR’s 10-race Chase for the Sprint Cup. Bowyer is sixth in the Chase just 15 points out of first.

  • Started 12th and finished fourth.
  • Moved from 12th to eighth on the first lap and into the top five by lap 15
  • Climbed as high as second.
  • Third consecutive top-10 finish.
  • Sixth in the Chase just 15 points out of lead.

BOWYER: “How was your race today? “ We had a solid race car. Denny (Hamlin) had a fast race car. We all knew that all weekend long -- from the time we unloaded he was the class of the field. Hats off to him. He called his shot and backed it up. Our 5-hour ENERGY Toyota was -- like I said -- solid, but we needed a little bit more. I fought loose in and off most of the day. Never really did get our rear grip where we needed it. It was a solid finish and kept us in the game going to Dover.”

What do you think of your position in the Chase? “Well, there’s a lot of racing left. Certainly, we’re still in the thing -- just got to keep these solid finishes coming. Really proud of our race team. We’ve been doing a good job and we‘ve got to keep going.”
