Daytona 500 Race Report
Clint Bowyer Race Summary: No. 15 5-hour ENERGY Toyota driver Clint Bowyer finished 11th in Sunday’s 55th running of the Daytona 500. The Michael Waltrip Racing driver started 10th after finishing fourth in his qualifying duel on Thursday afternoon. Bowyer raced to the lead by lap 40 before falling back. Bowyer joined his fellow Toyota drivers just past halfway when all six MWR and Joe Gibbs Racing Toyotas ran in the top-six. A caution came out with eight laps remaining forcing Bowyer to restart fifth in the bottom lane. On the restart the bottom lane lost momentum causing Bowyer to drop outside the top-15 briefly before rallying to finish 11th. The 5-hour ENERGY team returns to action Sunday at Phoenix International Raceway.
• Started 10th and finished 11th.
• Led lap 40.
• Raced in the top 10 a majority of the race.
• Forced to restart in the inside and slower lane with 8 laps to go.
• Rallied from 15th to 11th on the final lap.
BOWYER: “The 5-hour ENERGY Toyota was handling fine -- I just never could start on the outside. That outside just prevailed so much more. The one time the 48 (Jimmie Johnson) was down there and we were able to go with Denny (Hamlin) and him and myself -- we could kind of make that bottom work and that was about it. All in all, it was a decent day for our 5-hour ENERGY Toyota."
