5 Steps to Find Your Motivation and Complete Your Goals

5 Steps to Find Your Motivation and Complete Your Goals

Have you ever found yourself wanting to accomplish a goal but had trouble following through? Wanting to do something and actually doing it are very different. What separates the two is motivation. We all have those slumps where our drive is lacking and it seems like you’ll never be able to get anything done but the 5-hour ENERGY® team is here to give you a boost! The next time you’re not feeling as motivated as you need to be, keep these tips in mind:

Ask Yourself, “Why?”
Not knowing why you have to do something is often the culprit. A way to fight this is by asking yourself, “Why do I need to do this?” For example, you might be a college student who is having difficulties taking the initial step to start studying for a midterm. In this case you would ask, “Why do I need to study for this test?” The simple answer, “Because I need to get a good grade to graduate so I can get a good job” may be the shot of motivation you need to get going. The answer to your “why” question will help you realize what you need to do and the consequences of what could happen if you don’t.

Let the Anticipation Build
A trap that many people fall in to is starting to work towards your goal right away. While it’s great that you already have your drive and are ready to go, sometimes it works better to set a date in the future (a week, two weeks or even a month away) and make that day your start date. This time off will let your anticipation build which will help boost your enthusiasm and purpose. Mark the day on the calendar and make it an important date in your life. This will help get you excited about your goal and will make you more motivated.

Tell Friends and Family Your Goal
Sharing your plans and intentions with friends and family helps you stay motivated because your loved ones are your never ending support team. Let them know what you want to accomplish and by what date do they can be there to cheer you on. Depending on your goal, share weekly or monthly progress and don’t stop until you complete your goal.

Start Small
If you are having a hard time staying motivated when working towards completing a goal, it might be because you’re thinking too big. A good example of this is working out: if you’re a beginner, it is unrealistic to think your body will be able to handle five intense workouts per week. Instead, take smaller steps in working towards your ideal fitness routine by adding a few more minutes or more reps each week. Taking whatever goal you want to accomplish one step at a time will keep you from becoming overwhelmed and will help you stay inspired.

Think About the Benefits, Not the Challenges
It is natural to focus on the challenging side of things, however in order to stay motivated you have to switch that focus to the positive side. Instead of thinking about how hard something is, think of how great you will feel after you do it and what you will get out of it. Start filtering your thoughts so you ignore or eliminate the negative thoughts and replace them with positive ones. Your motivation will stick around a lot longer when you have a positive attitude!

Motivation is the key to completing your goals, so use these tips to help give your motivation a little nudge. Even though you might not feel like taking action, you’ll feel a lot better about yourself after you’ve completed your goal!
